Hannah had to get her first set of stitches today. We had gone to the movie store to rent a movie, and was getting back into the van. I shut my door without even realizing Hannah was getting into the van and had her hand wrapped around the van inside my door. I felt awful, to say the least. I stayed calm, got her outside and told Kyle to run in the store and get some paper towels. Once he came back out and I wiped it down, I realized that wasn’t going to be enough. I had to get it rinsed off, so I could see how bad it actually was. So, I rushed her into the video store and into the bathroom. The second the water hit it, I knew we had to get it looked at. It was a pretty bad cut. Ben was just across the street in his truck at the grocery store. I called him, he was over in about 2 minutes and took Kyle with him. I took Hannah to the Convenient Care. As soon as we got there they came out and put ice on it and wrapped it up and gave her some medicine for the pain. When we got called back, the doctor said that it was gonna need some stitches. She had basically torn her finger. At that point, Hannah panicked. She absolutely did not want to get stitches. The doctor and another nurse came in and began telling her that it was going to be okay, and the only thing that would hurt would be the shot when they had to numb it, and then she wouldn’t be able to feel a thing. Well, shot was the WRONG word! She would have been just fine, I’m sure, had they not made a big deal out of how much it was supposedly going to hurt when they went to numb it. Well, Miss Hannah surprised them. She didn’t cry or squirm at all when they were giving her the shots in her finger. She took the whole thing like a champ! They couldn’t believe how well she did. I, on the other hand, was doing everything I could not to pass out. At one point, the nurse asked me if I needed to lie down or needed a cold wash rag. I had made the mistake of looking at her finger when they were messing with it and pulling it apart, and then again when they were giving the shot, and if I hadn’t learned my lesson already,I glanced down when they were sewing it up! Whew! Hannah did great, me……not so much! They gave her a stuffed animal, a bee, when she was all done for being so brave.
